Policy Changes and the February Julep Maven Box!

Hi everyone!

Sorry it's been such a long time since my last post! My husband lost his job, and my father-in-law's health deteriorated really quickly (he passed away on January 4th), so it's been a really rough few months for us!

Since Mr. Mama lost his job, I've had a really hard time being able to afford a lot of new things from Julep, so I haven't taken too many boxes! However, I have made a couple of orders and swaps, so I will have reviews of those products coming up in the next few days!

Julep has very recently changed up some of the policies for the Maven program. For all those Mavens who signed up after December 18, 2013, skipping will only be allowed twice per year, and in order to skip, you have to "earn" the option. I'm not sure what to think of this, to be honest. From a business standpoint, I think it's a smart idea because they were probably getting a lot of Mavens who signed up just for the free box, and then just continued to skip every single month. I feel for the Mavens, however, who signed up under the terms of flexibility in taking the monthly boxes. Many of the Mavens (veterans and newbies alike) I have spoken to said that they would not have signed up if this "earn a skip" policy was in place when they originally signed up. On the other hand, many Mavens really enjoy the products no matter what, and would be perfectly fine with the obligation to buy their box every month. That all being said, I am definitely glad that I was "grandmothered" in to the Maven program because my current budget does not allow me to get the box every single month (currently, I only buy the boxes that I can't stop obsessing over!)

Another change at Julep is much more positive: the introduction of "Core Classic" boxes that allow Mavens to stock up on favorites. The February Core Classic box, for instance, includes Bare Face Cleansing Oil, the Kajal Eye Glider and Sharpener, the Konjac Sponge, and the complimentary "Love" polish that Julep is including in ALL February boxes.

And now, on to the boxes! As you may or may not know, there are several different options you can choose from (whether you want to go with the results of your Maven Quiz or not). As you also may or may not know, each month, Julep introduces a new product to go with the polish in the boxes. This month, it was Eye Sheen cream eyeshadow. There are four different shades:

From left to right: Dusty Taupe Shimmer, Pale Nude Shimmer, Warm Fig Shimmer, Deep Bronze Shimmer

The Julep Galaxy Mystery Box!

I ordered the Galaxy Mystery Box last Wednesday and was super-psyched to get it in the mail today! Each Mystery Box has different levels you can purchase: this month, the packages were the Pluto (for $20, containing $50 worth of product), the Cosmic (for $25, containing $70 of product), and the Supernova (for $40, containing $120 of product). You can also choose a mystery add-on for $10. I selected the Cosmic box and the mystery add-on.

When you order a Mystery Box, this is what it looks like when you open it

To the right, this is the mystery add-on; I actually got a two-fer. Two add-ons! The Hand and Cuticle Stick and Carrie, a pink cotton candy creme polish. The Hand and Cuticle Stick normally goes for $40, while Carrie normally costs $14.

On the left is the contents of the main mystery box itself. On the top, I got the Hand Model set, which includes the Glycolic Hand Scrub, the Rock Star Hand Creme, and the Oxygen Nail Treatment. Just that set is a $25 value! On the bottom, from left to right, the polishes I got were Francis, a celery green creme, Estelle, a dark holographic glitter, Charlotte, a smoky violet creme, Reiko, a golden champagne, Blakely, a molten purple and green, and Lexie, a dandelion yellow creme. Each of those go for $14, so the total value of this box (including the add-ons) was $163.

I was really pleased with this set. I had to get rid of a lot of nail polishes in my collection because they were damaging my nails more than anything, and Julep has really helped me start rebuilding my collection in a really short span of time. I am really excited to use the Glycolic Scrub and the Rock Star Hand Creme (look for my review on those within the next few days!) If you'd like to get similar bargains like the one seen here, sign up HERE and become a Maven today!

Which polish do you think I should try first? I'm loving them all! Drop me a suggestion below!

All About Julep!

I have a new beauty obsession: this fancy little website called Julep. I officially became a Julep Maven in July, mostly because of the AWESOME product selection that Julep carries, but also because they have great prices, and I like the idea of the Monthly Maven box.

So, what is a Monthly Maven box, you ask? When you sign up to become a Maven, you take a style profile quiz that puts you into a classification (of Boho Glam, Classic With a Twist, Modern Beauty, Bombshell, and It Girl). Each month, you get invited to purchase the monthly box for $20, but you can always skip it (on a side note, you don't have to pick the profile you are determined to fit - for example, I am Classic With a Twist, but last month, I picked the It Girl box).

When you become a Maven, you also get exclusive access to the Secret Store and you can purchase optional Mystery Boxes (which range from $20 to $40, and include anywhere from $50 for the lowest-priced box to $150 for the highest-priced box in products) each month. Of course, you don't have to be a Maven to buy the regular products on their site, but with the value that comes packed into the Monthly Maven boxes and the Mystery Boxes, why wouldn't you sign up for free immediately?? If you sign up through my link below, your first box will be free!
